Fishing communities in North Tyneside are being reminded that funding is still available for a range of projects.
The money can be used to develop small-scale infrastructure at ports and harbours; to add value to fisheries products through marketing, branding and processing; to retain and create jobs; aquaculture and marine-based industries; to promote cooperation and innovation; and to enhance and conserve the marine environment.
The North of Tyne Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) is responsible for delivering the scheme. This includes considering applications and deciding how funding should be allocated locally.
A number of funding bids are currently being developed but there is still funding available through the European Maritime and Fisheries Funding (EMFF). The FLAG funding forms part of the wider EMFF funding.
Eligible projects can obtain between 50-80 per cent grant funding of the total project cost, however the money must be applied for by March 2019.
The FLAG is responsible for delivering the scheme from Berwick to North Shields covering 14 coastal settlements, including Cullercoats and North Shields. The area has a fishing fleet of 119 vessels employing over 150 people directly in the industry.
