One Sunderland couple is proving to be a match made in heaven after winning a wedding at the Stadium of Light.
Kay Lambert and Michael Storey, who began dating five years ago, will now tie the knot for free in 2016 after scoring their big day in a regional competition.
The happy couple, who attended their first football game together at the Stadium of Light, will receive a daytime reception for up to 50 people, as well as an evening reception for up to 100.
This includes a three-course wedding breakfast, reception drink on arrival, wine to accompany the meal and toasts, an evening buffet and use of a DJ and disco for guests to dance the night away.
Kay, who is originally from Hebburn, said: “We had already looked at four or five venues since getting engaged but the Stadium of Light was always one of our favourites.
“To win our wedding here is absolutely fantastic and we couldn’t have picked the package better ourselves.”
Kay and her fiancé Michael, who has been an SAFC season card holder for the past 10 years, will host their wedding breakfast in the stadium’s James Herriot Suite, with the evening reception in one of the stadiums lounges.
The giveaway, run by Heart Radio, was designed to promote the wedding packages being offered at the Stadium of Light by Sunderland AFC’s specialist subsidiary, 1879 Events Management.
This includes civil ceremonies and receptions, with a choice of rooms available to cater for anywhere between 20 and 1000 guests.
Gary Hutchinson, Commercial Director at Sunderland AFC, said: “Kay and Michael are a fantastic couple and we are absolutely delighted to be able to make their dreams come true with a wedding at the Stadium of Light.”
