The Manor House in Sedgefield, County Durham is continuing to build a reputation as a venue for intimate gigs featuring highly regarded artistes. The latest act to head to Sedgefield will be acclaimed singer Keith James, who will perform the songs of the legendary Leonard Cohen in the Old Court Room at the Grade II listed 18th century building, on Friday 6 October.
Keith James will deliver a set of Cohen’s greatest songs including Famous Blue Raincoat, Sisters of Mercy, Suzanne, Hallelujah, all in the original pared back intimate form that Cohen was best known for. The set will also include poems by Lorca, Cohen’s greatest influence, which Keith has set to music, as well as songs from ‘You want it Darker’, released just weeks before Cohen’s death and produced by his son, Adam.
The Manor House is the only North East venue where James will perform during this latest tour, further cementing the venue’s growing renown as a prestigious location for events. After a change of ownership late in 2014, the building was refurbished and launched as a business centre, and also secured a licence to host events and marriages. Over the past two and a half years, the Manor House has become a popular multi-use venue for a wide variety of events, recently hosting a packed gig featuring Nashville favourite Kyshona Armstrong and singer-songwriter Robert Lane. It has also hosted Sedgefield Rock and Blues Club and a fringe night during the annual Sedgefield Folk Festival, as well as hosting an annual arts week.
Marie Walker, events manager for Manor House 1707 Ltd, comments:
“We’re really pleased with the reputation that the Manor House is developing as a regional venue. We have already attracted some very high calibre acts and the Old Court Room is now established as a great location for intimate, atmospheric gigs. That’s exactly we can look forward to from Keith James with his haunting repertoire of Leonard Cohen tracks, and we expect this event to sell out quickly. Due to the nature of the venue and show, tickets are limited and selling quickly so we encourage people to book early.”
