Screen Shot 2016-05-10 at 13.07.23Jazz “all stars” and “the finest English-style finger-picking guitarist of his generation” are set for gigs at Durham’s Gala Theatre this week.

Direct from London, on Thursday May 12, the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars bring music from the jazz greats and tales of old Soho, in a celebration of one of the capitals most famous venues.

While on Friday May 13 folk songwriter, guitarist and singer Sam Carter takes to the stage.

Combining world class tunes, narration and rare archive photos and video, The Ronnie Scott’s Story is a visual and musical celebration that charts the club’s rise from a basement bar where local musicians would jam, through its trials, tribulations and landmark performances to become the internationally acclaimed jazz venue it is today.

The following evening Gala welcomes folk artist Sam Carter to its stage. Sam has previously supported Bellowhead on a UK tour, appeared on BBC Two’s Later…with Jools Holland, performed on major festival stages and won the Horizon Award for best newcomer at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Tickets, which cost £17.50 for The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars and £12 to £14 for Sam Carter, are available online at www.galadurham.co.uk, by calling the Gala box office on 03000 266 600 or in person at the theatre.
