Working with partners and sports clubs to deliver the community sports festivals, the aim of programme is to create and deliver as many opportunities as possible for residents to take part in healthy activities and past-times.

One of the clubs taking part in the festival at the seafront is Washington Wolves Volleyball Team.

Eve Porter from the team said: “We’re thrilled to be part of this year’s area sports festivals. They are a fantastic opportunity to try new sports, including volleyball, for free, get outdoors and have fun”

She added: “We are particularly looking forward to the festival at Seaburn as it is such a fantastic location, having some of the activities on the beach really will be fantastic”.

All activities are free and everyone, of all ages and abilities, is encouraged to come along and have a go. Activities on the day include:

• Beach Rugby
• Beach Volleyball
• Beach Handball
• Mini Golf
• RNLI Flag Races
• Led Runs
• Climbing Wall
• Family games and challenges
• Cheerleading

The next area festival of the summer will take place on Wednesday 17 August at Mowbray Park. The festival will once again feature many free activities for all the family.

Further details will be released soon so please check the Active Sunderland Facebook page to keep up to date with the activity programme or go towww.activesunderland.org.uk for Active Sunderland news and events.
