North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

The Alchemist creates recruitment stir

Newcastle’s latest cocktail destination The Alchemist has created a recruitment stir in advance of its March opening.

Within just ten days of starting its recruitment process, the popular bar and restaurant concept has received nearly 1200 job applications, 900 of these in the first four days.

Around 50 applications are still being received daily.

The Newcastle site on Nelson Street will be the ninth Alchemist venue to open within the UK. Around 80 jobs will be created, ranging from mixologists, servers and chefs to bar backs and hosts.

Three recruitment days have been organized for the 14, 15 and 16 February, following which successful applicants will be taken forward into an intensive two-week training programme.

Simon Potts, Managing Director of The Alchemist, said: “Newcastle city centre is an obvious destination for us as a brand because our target market is urban, savvy, fun-loving professionals who are after something that little bit different.

“The response to our recruitment drive has been superb and we’re looking for people who want to build their careers with us. The Alchemist is a fantastic place to work and we thrive on creating theatre and delivering a top class service for our guests.”

To showcase its unconventional cocktails based on ‘molecular mixology’ and creative food offering, The Alchemist is being designed by Nottingham-based interior architecture and design studio Macaulay Sinclair and opening is planned for the end of March.

The double fronted venue will reflect the North East’s industrial past and feature bold, quirky and decadent interior design.

Visitors to the bar will be able to access the restaurant from its main entrance on Nelson Street or via the newly refurbished intu Eldon Square dining zone. A range of launch nights are being organised in the run up to the big unveil.
