Banks Property Submits Kingston Village Planning Application

Plans for the creation of a new community to the north west of Newcastle have been submitted for consideration by the City Council’s planning committee.

Banks Property is looking to create the new Kingston Village, a multi-million pound development of around 900 new family homes on a 49-hectare site to the west of Brunton Lane which was allocated for housing in the 2015 Newcastle & Gateshead Core Strategy and Urban Core Plan.

The scheme will also include a new primary school, a couple of retail units such as a convenience store and a coffee shop, allotments and large areas of high quality open space including a village green, giving it a unique community identity and also benefiting biodiversity.

A network of public footpaths and cycle ways, including links to nearby Newcastle Great Park and Kingston Park, would be put in place, while additional local infrastructure and improved public transport links would be created to benefit new and existing residents.

The North East family-owned firm held three exhibitions in local communities in November last year to introduce the outline plans, with a follow-up event held in February to highlight how it was evolving in light of the initial feedback that had been provided.

Banks Property is hoping to have its planning application considered by Newcastle City Council before the end of the year, and if it is approved, work would be due to start on the site by 2021 at the latest.

Jeannie Kielty, community relations manager at The Banks Group, says: “Our vision is for Kingston Village to be a distinct, vibrant community in an area that we know extremely well, and reaching this stage is an important landmark in the project’s development.

“Involving people who live in the communities around our proposed schemes is a central part of our ‘Development With Care’ approach, and we’ve been pleased with the reception that our ideas have had from many local residents over the last few months.

“The Banks Group has a long-standing reputation for delivering long-term tangible benefits to the communities in which we work, and we’re excited at the prospect of creating a thriving new community in this part of the city.”
