Proposals for a new residential development in Ponteland have been submitted for consideration by Northumberland County Council’s planning committee.
Banks Property, part of regional employer the Banks Group, has put forward plans for around 400 family homes on a 21 hectare site to the west of the A696 and north of the B6545 as part of a development known as West Clickemin Farm.
Last month, the North East-headquartered business displayed its updated plans for the scheme at various locations around Ponteland, with feedback gathered from visitors to the exhibitions being used by the project team as the planning application was finalised.
The planning application has been refined over a period of several years to allow for a substantial amount of information about the site, which has long been recognised as appropriate for development of this type, and the wider local area to be gathered, collated and factored into it.
Michael Shuttleworth, managing director at Banks Property, says: “Over the last few months, we have been working towards finalising the design for our West Clickemin Farm development, and we are pleased to have now reached this important landmark.
“The feedback we received from visitors to our recent displays in the town has been very useful, and we were pleased with the numbers who expressed their support for the project, especially from some of the residents who live close to the proposed site.
“Staying in or moving to the places in which people want to live should be an option for everyone, and increasing the supply of quality homes across our region through developments such as this will contribute to making this a realistic goal.
“We have created a high quality development scheme for what we believe is the most appropriate location in the area for residential development, a view that is backed up by its inclusion in the draft Core Strategy as being appropriate for housing as part of a wider mixed-use development, and we believe the many benefits that it would bring to the local area all add up to a very strong case for its approval by the County Council’s planning committee.”
