BBL on the BBC: Wolves v Flyers lowdown

Friday 02 December
Worcester Wolves v Bristol Flyers (BBL Championship) 7.45pm

Summary

BBL Championship action will be broadcast live on the BBC Sport website, Connected TV and on the BBC Sport app for the first time this season on Friday. (Finals on the red button as well)

Worcester Wolves and Bristol Flyers provide the first of 32 BBL and WBBL contests to grace the small screen, and it is one they are both desperate to win.

Wolves halted their four-game slide with a win on the road at Leeds Force last weekend, improving to a 4-8 League record.

Flyers, meanwhile, have not won since the opening night of the season, slipping to the foot of the table.

Word from the Wolves

Wolves guard Ashton Khan: “We expect them to come out hungry for a win. We know they’ve been struggling this season. Teams like that are hungry, and they have a good coach that will make sure they are prepared for us. We can’t overlook these games. These wins are just as important to us as they are to Bristol. It’s going to be a tough hard-fought game. If we do the little things we should come out on top.”

View from the commentary box

BBL commentator Dan Routledge: “The thing I’ll be looking at is how Bristol deal with Maurice Walker.

“Bristol are near the bottom of the table when it comes to points they’ve given up to offensive put-backs and post-up plays. Obviously Walker has only played a few games in the league, but he’s been averaging 25 and 10 so far and when you look at the tape, a lot of his offence comes from offensive rebounds and post-ups.

“Bristol will be looking at their fixtures over the next month or so and will think they can get a number of wins on the board to move up the table. I’m sure they’ll be hoping this is the first of them and have been boosted by an addition to their roster.”

Three points:

* Wolves have won the last seven meetings between these teams
* Wolves coach Paul James is one win short of 500 in BBL competition
* Following the recent departure of Lovell Cook, Flyers have turned to 6ft 3in shooting guard, Aaron Cosby.

WBBL 3×3:

Opening week will see the first ever Molten WBBL 3×3 game during half-time of the BBL broadcast. Cardiff Met Archers will tussle with Barking Crusaders in the historic first duel of the brand-new competition.
