Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

BBL Stat stars: September/October

British_Basketball_League_(emblem)We take a look at who got in done in the BBL during September/October.

The Scoring Machines
There were two players who managed to pass the key landmark and post in excess of 20 points per game during the opening phase of the new campaign. Jordan Williams (Cheshire Phoenix) has enjoyed a white-hot start to his career in the BBL with a table-topping 21.3 points per game and fellow first-timer Jerrold Brooks (Sheffield Sharks) poured in 20.2 points to underline why he was in the Molten BBL Player of the Month shake-up. Just falling agonisingly short of the 20-point barrier was Cardell McFarland (Bristol Flyers) with 19.9 points per game and the top five was rounded off by Antone Robinson (Sheffield Sharks) who accumulated 18.2 points per game and Daryl Corletto (Plymouth University Raiders) who mustered 18 points per game and now has a new role as player-coach.

The Hot Hands
Stuart Thomson (Esh Group Eagles Newcastle) had an insanely brilliant shooting performance after racking up more than 81% from the field. While not massively high volume, he still made 30 of his 37 attempts to record the best ever statstarperformance in this category. Not far behind on 72.2% was Jerrold Brooks (Sheffield Sharks) and there was a second Brit player in the top three in the shape of Nathan Schall (Manchester Giants) who converted a similarly outstanding 70.6%. Regretfully Demond Watt (London Lions) started his career in the capital where he left off at Phoenix last year with 64.5% from the field but then suffered an injury. Molten BBL Player of the Month TrayVonn Wright (Leicester Riders) comes in at fifth place with 63.8% and his team-mate Dzaflo Larkai (Leicester Riders) was the sixth and final player to exceed a magnificent 60% from the floor.

Deadly From Deep
Contributing towards his prestigious gong, TrayVonn Wright (Leicester Riders) led the way from downtown with a superb 50% from long-range and was followed by Akeem Ellis (Cheshire Phoenix). The three-point shooting podium is completed by Doug McLaughlin-Williams (Bristol Flyers) with 47.7%, while Kyle Odister (Sheffield Sharks), Matthias Seilund (Bristol Flyers), Andrew Thomson (Esh Group Eagles Newcastle) and Jonny Bunyan (Glasgow Rocks) all fired more than 45% from distance.

The Glass Crashers
A recent arrival in the form of Kinu Rochford (Cheshire Phoenix) sits at the top of the rebounding chart with an average of 13.5 boards during his four outings and he is one of three players to amass double-digits on the glass. In second place,Antone Robinson (Sheffield Sharks) corralled 12.2 boards and Tyrone Lee (Bristol Flyers) pulled down 10.3 rebounds per game. Perris Blackwell (Worcester Wolves) was in fourth with 9.7 and British star Rob Marsden (Leeds Force) weighed in with 9.4 rebounds per game.

On The Line
There was no perfection from the charity stripe and coming closest to it were reigning Molten BBL MVP, Charles Smith (EshGroup Eagles Newcastle) who dropped 91.7%, while Jerrold Brooks (Sheffield Sharks) was the only other player to pass 90% from the line.

Handing It Out
A regular statstar leader in 2014-15 when it came to dishing out the joy to his team-mates, Josh Wilcher (Plymouth University Raiders) is once again back at the top of the heap with 6.8 assists per game. Cardell McFarland (Bristol Flyers) is not far behind with six assists each time he treads the boards, while Rahmon Fletcher (Esh Group Eagles Newcastle), Jerrold Brooks (Sheffield Sharks), Callum Jones (Manchester Giants) and Charles Smith (Esh Group Eagles Newcastle) all handed out five assists or more each time they played during the period.

The Pick-Pockets
Proving age is no barrier and that experience and anticipation can triumph over quickness, Charles Smith (Esh Group Eagles Newcastle) has more steals to his name than anyone else with 2.4 per game and is followed by Nick Lewis (London Lions) with two per game. The duo stood out in front of a bunched-up pack chasing them down.

The Swat Kings
On the throne is regular highlights reel contributor TrayVonn Wright (Leicester Riders) who led the high flying action with 2.7 blocked shots per game. The athletic Tyrone Lee (Bristol Flyers) and Kinu Rochford (Cheshire Phoenix) are locked behind with 1.8 blocks per game.
