Beacon to be lit to Celebrate Queen’s Birthday

middlesbrough-moving-forwardMIDDLESBROUGH will this week light a beacon in celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday.

An event will take place at the Cenotaph on Linthorpe Road at 7pm on Thursday, April 21.

A blessing will be given at 7.15pm followed by the lighting of the beacon at 7.30pm. Refreshments will be available on arrival and everyone is welcome to attend.

The event coincides with the lighting of beacons taking place throughout the United Kingdom.

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will light the Principal Beacon at Windsor Castle on the same date.

The Principal Beacon has been lit by The Queen on all the following occasions:

50th Anniversary of VE Day – 1995

Beacons for the Millennium – 1999

The Queen’s Golden Jubilee – 2002

The Trafalgar Weekend Beacons – 2005
