Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Beer and Cider Festivals Return to the Region

beer fest largeReal ale and cider lovers will once again be raising a glass as a popular family festival returns to the North East.

For the third year running, the Malhotra Beer and Cider Festival is taking place in the region and this year it is set to be bigger and better with events planned at four key venues.

The first of the festivals will take place at the Three Mile Inn, Gosforth, from 8 to 10 July, with similar festivals to follow in August, at The Runhead Bar and Grill, Holburn Lane, Ryton, Osborne’s at Jesmond’s Osborne Road and the Sandpiper, Farringdon Road, Cullercoats.

The festivals, organised by Newcastle-based leisure company, Malhotra Group plc, offer the chance to sample some of the region’s finest craft beers, ales and ciders and enjoy a raft of family-based entertainment.

This year, the festivals will be sponsored by Cullercoats brewery and Blaydon-based Firebrick Brewery, whose ales and cider will be on sale alongside brews from the Malhotra Group’s own Artisan Brew Co, based at the Three Mile Inn.

Among the ales on offer at the Three Mile Inn event, will be Artisan ABC IPA, Firebrick Heatwave and Cullercoats Rocket Brigade.

Others include Fortified Jack the Devil, Wylam Galatia and Gold Tankard and Tynebank Summer Breeze and Silver Dollar, while ciders include the new Somersby Strawberry and Rhubarb and Westons Old Rosie ciders.

The Three Mile Inn festival will run from noon to midnight on Friday and Saturday and from noon to 10.30pm on Sunday and barbecues will also be held at the venue throughout the weekend.

“Our region is home to some great craft ales, beers and ciders,” said Atul Malhotra, director of The Malhotra Group, “including those from our own Artisan Brewery.

“Each year, our festivals get bigger and better as word spreads and we very much hope as many people as possible, of all ages, will come along and enjoy a great day – or weekend – out.”

The Runhead’s festival will take place between 11 and 14 August, followed by Osbornes’, from 19 to 21, finishing off with the Sandpiper’s festival from 26 to 29.
