BEER SALES POUR £6K INTO THE ALAN SHEARER FOUNDATION…

SALES of a beer created to support a North East charity, have already raised more than £6k, which will now go to help families in need.

Shearer’s Beer is specifically brewed by Heaton-based Anarchy Brewery to raise funds for the Alan Shearer Centre in Newcastle.

The Alan Shearer Centre, operated by St Cuthbert’s Care and supported by the Alan Shearer Foundation, offers free use of sensory spaces and specialist leisure facilities to families living with complex disabilities.

In an ongoing commitment, Heaton-based Anarchy makes a donation to The Shearer Foundation from every can and pint sold – and it has now raised £6,150.

The beer – which is available online and across bars and venues in the North East – launched last year in response to Alan Shearer’s Raise Your Hand to Help appeal.

The appeal was a call to raise the £320,000 needed each year to keep the Centre free at the point of use.

And Anarchy Brewery was quick to act – putting Shearer’s beer straight into production.

Handing the donation to the charity, Anarchy Brewery manager Phil Beaty said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to support such a fantastic charity, which provides state of the art facilities for those who need it most.

“We are just getting started with our fundraising endeavours and we are super exited for the future and would like to thank everyone who’s purchased the beer.”

Matt Bowmaker, director, Alan Shearer Foundation, said: “This is a brilliant result and a huge credit to Anarchy and everyone who’s bought a pint or a can.

“Every sale helps keep the Alan Shearer Centre free for families that need it and this £6,150 will make a real difference.

“We’re gearing up for a massive year and support like this is what makes the big stuff possible.”

Shearer’s Beer is available at bars and retail outlets across the North East, including The Strawberry, Fenwick and Shark Bar in Newcastle, The Blackbird in Ponteland, Enjoy Beer, at Morpeth and the Northumberland Arms at Felton.

It is also available online at anarchybrewco.com.
