Bishop Auckland opticians supports Alzheimer’s Society

A Bishop Auckland opticians is focused on backing Alzheimer’s Society all this week by selling a charity calendar and running a book sale, raffle and guess the baby photo competition.

Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care on Cockton Hill  is raising funds and awareness for the charity to mark World Alzheimer’s Day on Thursday 21 September.

Branch manager, Jo Bestford, said: “We’d like to thank customers for their support. It is a cause close to our hearts because dementia affects so many people in our community. World Alzheimer’s Day is a timely reminder of the continued need for funds for research and support.”

The 2018 Memorable Moments calendar, priced £4.95, features 12 photographs chosen in a national competition run by Scrivens after the public submitted favourite memorable images. The calendar is available in branch and online with all proceeds in aid of Alzheimer s Society, the company’s chosen charity for a third year.

As part of its backing, the branch will also donate £1 for every hearing screening from 18-23 September. The company selected Alzheimer’s Society as its chosen charity because of the growing evidence of a link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s.
