The 2015/16 Konect Derby Cup took place at Ramside Hall last Wednesday (March 16) and saw 22 teams of Sunderland and Newcastle supporting golfers go head-to-head to win the renowned title.

The day, organised by The Konect Group, was the fourth of its kind, and has seen numerous former North East football players team up with amateur golfers over the past four years for a day full of friendly rivalry. And in the lead up to this weekend’s derby, all bragging rights were up for grabs.

Team Sunderland Captain, and former Sunderland player, Martin Scott, said: “I knew what a challenge it would be to ensure that the Team Sunderland’s winning streak was maintained, and I’m delighted that we managed to make it 4 in a row.  The conditions out there weren’t the best but we dug deep and made sure of a Team Sunderland win.”

After the game, local radio presenter Gary Philipson hosted a talk-in with both team captains and other former North East football players including John Carver, Gordon Armstrong, John McPhail, Martin Smith, Micky Horswill, Ritchie Pitt, Dick Malone and Don Rankin.

Konect Group Chief Executive, Gavin Brown, said: “As an avid Sunderland supporter, it was great to see Team Sunderland take the trophy for the fourth year in a row- hopefully the lucky streak will continue with the Sunderland football team on Sunday!

“Thanks again to everybody who took part, the planning for the next 2016/17 season starts now!”
