Boat race bonanza as autism charity Daisy Chain declares it “the best yet”

Three days of rain finally stopped and the sun shone on the 15th annual Bell boat race on the Tees staged on behalf of autism charity Daisy Chain at the weekend (July 1st).

More crews than ever before took to the river drawing crowds of onlookers to the Tees Barrage White Water Centre as they battled it out for honour – or just for fun.

After a series of highly competitive races three crews representing Clicksco, PD Ports and CF Fertilizers contested the final. Last years winners, Mandale Group, had to look on this year after losing in a closely fought semi-final.

“This was the biggest and best yet,” said Stuart Dexter, Daisy Chain chief executive. “It is great to see so many down here supporting the teams and helping us raise money and awareness of autism.”

Former Premiership referee Jeff Winter was master of ceremonies.
