Boro Taxis has cemented its place as the North East’s largest private hire operator, following an announcement that it has merged with Redcar’s J & P Taxis.

The merger means that Boro Taxis is now the third largest private hire operator in the UK with a fleet of more than 1000 vehicles, including cars and minibuses.

Following the merger, J & P’s 165 vehicles will continue to operate under its well respected name, but will benefit from being part of Boro Taxis’ significantly larger fleet.

J & P founder, Craig Walker, will remain involved with the business, which will continue to have a Redcar base, and all of its current drivers and office-based staff will be retained.

Mohammed Bashir, who founded Boro Taxis in 1982 with just three cars, said: “This is a very exciting time for us at Boro Taxis. This merge makes us the third largest taxi business in the country, which is something we’re very proud of.

“J & P share Boro Taxis’ core value of providing excellent customer service. Before signing contracts we held extensive and thorough talks.

“We will be keeping all the J & P staff on as they do a fantastic job and the business is a well-known name in Redcar with a great reputation.

“We are looking forward to working with Craig and everyone at J & P to develop both businesses, and offering our combined staff and customers the very best service possible.”

Craig Walker, Director of J & P Taxis, said: “By merging with Boro Taxis, we will be able to provide a wider geographical coverage for both our drivers and customers. I am looking forward to working with the team at Boro Cars.

“We still have the same drivers that our customers have come to know and love, and will still aim to deliver the excellent service that our customers have become accustomed to.”

Mohammed Bashir added: “We are all looking forward to this new and exciting chapter in the businesses’ histories.”
