Boro Taxis top drop off spots unveil changing leisure offer in Middlesbrough

Boro Taxis has published its top drop off locations in Middlesbrough during 2016, revealing a changing leisure landscape in the town.

Tees Valley’s largest taxi firm, which handles more than 100,000 calls per week, last published its data on its top destinations in 2014.

Since then the top 10 has drastically changed, with Manjaros, an afro-Caribbean-inspired restaurant, which didn’t exist in its current form when the figures were last calculated, taking the top position.

Destinations on Middlesbrough’s Linthorpe and Southfield Roads continue to dominate the list, but the trendy Baker and Bedford Streets, often wheeled out as examples of the diversifying leisure offering in the region, are clearly making inroads, appearing in ninth and tenth position respectively.

The following top ten has emerged from Boro Taxis’ analysis of its calls:

  • 1 Manjaros, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough
  • 2 Dovecot, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough
  • 3 Cineworld, Marton Road, Middlesbrough
  • 4 Central Park, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough
  • 5 Southfield Pub, Southfield Road, Middlesbrough
  • 6 Al Fornos, Southfield Road, Middlesbrough
  • 7 The Oven, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough
  • 8 Hollywood Bowl, Teesside Park, Thornaby
  • 9 The Twisted Lip, Baker Street, Middlesbrough
  • 10 Chairman, Bedford Street, Middlesbrough

Mohammed Bashir, founder of the firm, which has more than 1,000 cars in its fleet and provides employment to a similar number of people in the region, said: “It’s clear from the sheer number of calls we receive, more than 100,000 each week, that Teessiders love to get out and about and socialise.

“Our research shows that our customers like to support local businesses with a majority of the top destinations being independently owned. It’s also no surprise that most of them serve a parmo!

“It’s also great to see the investment in Middlesbrough town centre paying off, with new locations on Baker Street and Bedford Street making the shortlist.

“These figures capture what a fantastic and ever-evolving offering we have here in Teesside. We at Boro Taxis are proud to be able to support the local economy, not only by providing jobs to more than 1,000 people, but by also transporting customers to venues throughout the region.”

Rafiq Ali, Owner of Manjaros, said: “We’re really pleased to hear that Manjaros is Boro Taxis’ top drop off destination in Middlesbrough. We were just starting out when the last list was put together and this shows just how far we’ve come, and how popular the restaurant is. Middlesbrough has a great deal to offer locals and visitors alike, and the variation in the most popular destinations is evidence of this. This town has something to offer everyone.”
