Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

#BrickMetro at Fenwick this summer

The Tyne and Wear Metro is celebrating its past and looking to the future with the display of its #BrickMetro in one of the North East’s iconic retailers during the Great Exhibition of the North.

The finished 1:10 scale #BrickMetro LEGO® model is now on display within the Toy department in Fenwick Newcastle until Sunday 9th September 2018.

Last summer Metro called on young Master Builders to help build their 91st Metrocar – the first new Metro to be built for nearly four decades – as part of a school holiday challenge with the renowned LEGO® architect BrickThis – aka Steve Mayes.

Over the course of a week in August 2017 more than 100 children and their families from across the region worked with Steve at The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, in South Shields to build the 22,000-brick model of a Metrocar to celebrate Metro’s proud history in Tyne and Wear.

Customer Services Director at Nexus, Huw Lewis, said: “It is fantastic that our LEGO® Metro train is being featured in the Fenwick Toy department this summer, during the Great Exhibition of the North.

“When we commissioned renowned LEGO® architect Brick This, aka Steve Mayes, to build the 91st Metrocar last summer as part of our Brick Metro Big Build event at The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, in South Shields we knew the model would be popular. Tickets to take part in the build sold out within seven hours and thousands of people visited The Word to see the model.

“Since it left The Word back in September the model has been residing in the reception of Nexus House, so it is great to see it back on display for the public to enjoy during the school summer holidays. We hope that children and their families will come to see the model and take part in the Great Exhibition of the North’s trails.”
