The Plymouth Raiders have announced the signing of former two-time BBL Team of the Year forward, Rashad Hassan for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

The 29-year-old joined Leicester Riders in 2013 and spent two seasons at the club. Hassan was named to the Team of the Year after averaging 17.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in the final year of his spell.

After a spell in Luxembourg, Hassan returned to the league to sign with London Lions, where he played alongside Raiders’ Zak Wells and made the Team of the Year for a second time after averaging 18.6 points and 8.4 rebounds.

“I’m really excited about the signing of Rashad Hassan,” said Raiders’ head coach, Paul James.

“We have been steadily developing as a team, but it has been very evident that we have been struggling from the power forward position.

“Rashad becoming available and subsequently signing for us can only be seen as a positive thing for the Raiders moving forward.

“He has played in the BBL with Leicester Riders and London Lions and proved to be one of the best
power forwards in the league. Hopefully he can put up the kind of numbers he had with those teams, here with the Raiders.”

Hassan added: “I’m excited to be joining the Plymouth Raiders family.

“I feel rejuvenated and ready to perform in Britain’s Ocean City. I’m looking forward to learning from Coach Paul James and teaming up with the guys.

“I’m thankful for this opportunity. Winning is everything and the time is now!”

It is with regret that the club also announces the departure of power forward, Javis Howard in a required move to allow Hassan to utilise one of only three US import slots allowed on the roster.

The club thanks Javis for all his hard work, determination, and professionalism, and everyone at the club wishes him all the very best for the future.
