A North East based digital housing manufacturer is ramping up to tackle the UK housing crisis with its design led technology at the forefront of its latest project in North Shields.
Construction on a development of three bedroom and three bathroom homes in a gated community based on Priory Mews, Tynemouth, is due for completion by end of November.
ORCA LGS Solutions, an innovative design, manufacturing and training company, has developed a forward thinking way to deliver more housing faster using local people and offsite construction technology.
The company hopes to help combat the UK’s current housing and skills crisis by delivering 10,000 housing units and creating 1,500 jobs within 5 years.
Digitally manufactured Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) components are produced from a printer, quickly assembled in a factory, then installed on site to deliver 100m2 of housing per day.
Leading North East property firm Bradley Hall is set to market the impressive properties with high spec finishes including underfloor heating, dynamic roof space, oak staircases and doors, landscaped garden and secure rear parking.
John-Paul Fraser, Managing Director at ORCA said: “With light gauge steel we can build a greater number of houses in a more cost effective and scalable manner. There’s a huge skills crisis and unfortunately we can’t just rely on traditional methods, bricklayers and joiners to deliver the housing desperately needed.
“We have delivered a 10-week training programme as proof of concept, focusing on people who are not in education, employment or training resulting in trainees being fully accredited and certified LGSF installers – or digital joiners if you like. It’s now time for technology to deliver more and better quality housing”
“The homes at Priory Mews are set to be a fantastic addition to the local area. We are looking to deliver a range of house types on future developments in the region and throughout the UK, working in partnership with a range of local organisations to increase housing supply. Priory Mews is a great example of the types of housing we’ll be delivering with high spec finishes and dynamic use of space”
Bradley Hall director of estate agency, Matt Hoy, said: “LGSF is making waves in the construction industry – it is a cleaner and more efficient way to build homes and also provides an opportunity to introduce new skills and jobs into the market.
“We have developed a fantastic partnership with ORCA and are looking forward to continuing this. We fully support the company’s strategy to bring more high quality homes to the North East housing market in the most time effective way.
“This way of building doesn’t compromise on safety or the quality of the properties, quite the opposite. The homes at Priory Mews will be of very high quality, benefitting from luxury finishes”
ORCA has also committed to the Armed Forces Covenant, supporting those who are in or have been injured in the armed forces, receiving the Bronze Award by the government organisation in recognition.
