Darlington Building Society has coordinated a charity day at George Dent Nursery as part of its community pledge.

The Society is celebrating its 160th anniversary in 2016 by giving 160 volunteering days to organisations, such as, the George Dent Nursery.

With summer approaching the Cockerton and Tubwell Row branches have donated £250 to set up a new garden for the two-year-olds at the nursery, the money went towards new tools and equipment to help the garden take shape. It will include a planting area so the children can experience gardening.

Not only donating the money, the Building Society’s Jayne Tomlinson, Cockerton Branch Manager, spent half a day at the nursery helping to set up the new outdoor area.

Jayne said: “For over a century Darlington Building Society has been avid supporters of the local community and I am honoured to have been able to help so many worthwhile causes throughout the time I have worked here.

“Our community fund helps many individuals and organisations across the local area with the George Dent Nursery being the latest. It is fantastic to see everyone’s hard work has paid off and the nursery now has a beautiful new garden that the children, parents and staff can enjoy.”

Katie Taylor, Orchard Room Manager at George Dent Nursery, said: “We cannot thank Darlington Building Society enough for its help in creating our wonderful new garden. It is always so rewarding to see the children learn and develop at the nursery and I’m sure the new planting area will be a fantastic addition to our facilities.

“It is important for us to continue to expand the facilities we offer and we are extremely grateful to Darlington Building Society that they have helped us to do so”.
