Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Busy Year for North East Bistro

Screen Shot 2015-07-21 at 10.51.00A North East venue is celebrating a successful first year in business, catering for tens of thousands of visitors and countless family events.

The Beach House at Roker, Sunderland has delivered between 600 and 700 covers per week on average in the past 12 months, with figures rising significantly during school holidays.

The seafront property, which opened as part of the Pier Point development in 2014, has also typically served more than 200 cones and sundaes in its ice cream parlour every weekend, averaging around 60 per day during the week.

The venue’s owners, 1879 Events Management, are attributing much of this success to the menu’s accessibility and wide range of public events running throughout the year.

Amanda Owen, Manager at The Beach House, said: “The Beach House is in such an amazing location and its menu has been specifically designed to cater for the countless families who visit the seafront on a regular basis.

“That, coupled with the wide range of free events we offer, has helped us to capitalise on seasonal attendance, as well as attracting new and repeat custom all year round.”

The Beach House is the first stand-alone venue to be launched by 1879 Events Management, which also runs catering and events at the Stadium of Light and National Glass Centre, Sunderland, as well as offering a variety of outside catering services.

The venue, which overlooks Roker Beach, is currently open daily from 10am until 5pm, serving a range of main meals, snacks, desserts and signature ice cream sundaes.

A programme of family-focussed events is also in place, with activities such as monthly tapas nights, sandcastle building competitions, Easter egg hunts, pancake races and arts and crafts catering for visitors of all ages.

“We celebrated The Beach House’s first birthday with a day of family fun led by Alice in Wonderland,” said Amanda.  “This is typical of the events you will find at the venue and we’re now looking forward to a busy summer period, as well as continued success in the months beyond.”
