The popular event, which takes place every year on Easter Saturday and regularly sells out in advance, is in the running for the ‘Best Small Festival’ and ‘Best Metropolitan Festival’ at the UK Festival Awards.
This year’s event featured national bands such as Blossoms and Reverend and The Makers alongside emerging local acts Matt Wilde and Dressed Like Wolves.
Paul Burns, of Tees Music Alliance – one of Stockton Calling’s organising partners, said: “Stockton Calling is a real team effort involving a host of town centre venues, some great local promoters and, of course, some amazing artists. We’re delighted that we’ve been nominated in these two categories.”
Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “It is fantastic to see Stockton Calling getting the national recognition that it deserves by being nominated for these prestigious awards.
“The festival really highlights the wonderful reputation of both our local music scene and the fantastic venues we have on our doorstep delivering first class events on a regular basis.”
