A FIRE walking world record attempt saw care home workers stride across hot coals to raise funds for their residents.
Deputy manager Clare Robson, carer Linda Palmer and activities coordinator Angela Hedley, from The Oaks Care Home, in Blyth, Northumberland, took on the challenge to help fund a summer seaside trip.
They collected £287 in sponsorship by completing the walk, receiving a medal and certificate for the daring feat.
They joined more than 1,000 others at Newcastle Falcons’ Kingston Park Stadium for the challenge, which unfortunately failed to set a new world record.
The record stands at 1,360, with organisers hoping to get 1,500 fire walkers involved, but falling short of their target.
Deputy manager Clare said: “I wanted to tick something off my bucket list before turning 40 next year and I thought it was a good opportunity to raise funds for the home’s residents.
“It was a great experienced and I wanted to do it again after finishing.”
Carer Linda added: “It was a fabulous experience and it was great to do something to add to the residents’ fund.”
Activities coordinator Angela said: “I felt exhilarated as the atmosphere was buzzing. I was on cloud 9 after and would happily do a longer walk.”
