Care home’s carnival party for National BBQ Week

THE CARNIVAL came to a Teesside care home as residents, staff and visitors celebrated National BBQ Week.

The Beeches Care Home, on Green Lane, Stockton-on-Tees, gave an early welcome to the summer by bringing out the BBQ to mark the occasion.

In traditional British fashion, the weather ensured everyone remained inside for the party, while the home’s maintenance man John George braved the rain and cold to cook the food under a gazebo in the garden.

Donning a top hat and “King of the BBQ” apron, John grilled burgers and hotdogs, with a variety of toppings, sauces and sides for everyone to enjoy.

In the spirit of the carnival theme, popcorn, candy floss, ice-cream, cakes and sweets were also available, washed down with shandy, wine or lemonade.

Residents were also treated to traditional carnival games, including play your cards right, coconut shy and tin can alley.

Resident Dot Cowley said: “I really enjoyed the BBQ and it was such a lovely afternoon.”

Resident Sheila Storr added: “I really enjoyed the afternoon. I could tell everyone else really enjoyed themselves too.”

Jess Brown, home manager at The Beeches Care Home, said: “For national BBQ day, we decided as a home to throw a carnival themed BBQ.

“Everyone had such a lovely afternoon. It was just a shame the good old British weather stopped us from having the BBQ outside.

“Despite the weather, it was great fun for everyone, and maintenance man John did a great job on the BBQ.”
