A PRIME Minister, suffragette, scientist and Olympian were among the inspiring women discussed at a Teesside care home on International Women’s Day.

Residents at The Beeches Care Home in Stockton-on-Tees held a quiz of famous women in history to mark the occasion.

Conversation was sparked off on a wide variety of achievements from Margaret Thatcher, Emeline Pankhurst, Marie Curie and Fatima Whitbread, among others.

Resident Gwen Baker said: “I really enjoyed the quiz. It keeps the brain working and makes you think about the famous women from history. It was a lot of fun.”

Helen Wood, home manager at The Beeches Care Home, on Green Lane, said: “International Women’s Day was celebrated around the world and our residents wanted to join in the conversation.

“We thought a quiz would be a great way to get the residents talking about lots of different inspiring women who helped change the world.

“Reminiscence activities also have a wide range of benefits for the elderly, helping to spark off conversation, reduce feelings of loneliness and depression through the sharing of memories.”
