A Richmondshire artist celebrated the opening of her new gallery last weekend – thanks to a grant from the District Council.
Stacey Moore received £767.50 from the authority to help with equipment, signage and marketing materials for her new shop in Hawes.
It is the latest grant from the Small Business Grant Scheme which can offer support of up to £1000 for small companies in the district. The 2015/16 grant scheme has awarded a total of £28,211.84 to 36 businesses.
Yorkshire born Stacey launched her country inspired gift collection on leaving university in – featuring animal artwork through graphite and coloured pencils. She likes to depict the humourous side of animals – with her favourites covering hares, foxes, sheep, cows and game birds. Her collection now includes limited edition prints, homeware and stationery.
“I’m so excited to be opening my first shop at the age of 23 in my hometown of Hawes,” she said “The support of the local community has been fantastic and the small business grant has been a fantastic opportunity to purchase equipment to get my shop up and running. I cannot wait to get my new venture underway.”
Leader of the Council, Councillor Yvonne Peacock added: “This scheme may only offer small amounts of cash but they make a big difference to businesses around the district. This latest grant sees a new business opening up its doors – we are pleased we have helped this happen.”
And local ward councillor, Councillor John Blackie said: “The gallery that Stacey has opened will bring a welcome addition to the diverse range of retail enterprises already on offer in Hawes, and further enhance the reputation of the Upper Dales as the home for a remarkable number of top class artists and craftspeople whose work is constantly in demand.
“Stacey was born and brought up in Hawes, so it is a real bonus to see a highly talented young person like her return home directly after a University career, and take a chance in setting up her own business here. I wish her every success.”
