North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Celebrating the best of Bishop Auckland

Bishop Auckland Market is joining forces with Bishop Auckland Town Team and Andrew Corry Blog to create a two-day event in Bishop Auckland Market Place to promote the regeneration of the town.

Bishop Celebrating Together takes place on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd September.

On the Friday evening, from 4 to 9pm, there will be a Full Moon Streetfood Market from 4 to 9pm with a wide range of street food vendors and live music as well as rides and facepainting for children.  On Saturday from 10am to 4pm, there will be an outdoor market and entertainment.  The entertainment will include Darlington and Durham Fire and Rescue, Bishop Auckland Police, performances from the Sandra Welsh School of  Dance, Jack Drum Arts and X-treme Dance Fusion, and live music.  For children, there will be free face painting and SandArt (a small charge applies for this).  The town’s mascot, Bishop The Boar, will also make an appearance.

Colin Wilkes, Managing Director of Durham Markets which operates Bishop Auckland Market, commented:  “There are numerous businesses and organisations working hard  to recreate a vibrant and attractive town centre in Bishop Auckland, and it is wonderful that we can all come together for this two day event.  Our aim is to attract people into the Market Place to enjoy either the Streetfood Market on the Friday evening, or the Outdoor Market on the Saturday, and to make the most of all the other activities and attractions.  We want families to come out and enjoy their town; we hope they’ll discover something new, and appreciate the joint determination of several partners to make Bishop Auckland a great town centre to visit once again. We are grateful for the support offered by Eleven Arches, the Castle and all those attending the weekend’s events.”

Additional attractions during the weekend include the Black and White Exhibition at No 42, live music from 4pm on both Friday and Saturday at No 1, events and entertainment at The Merry Monk, ‘A Hope and a Future’ displays at St Anne’s Church (open 10am to 4pm Saturday 23rd and 12.30pm to 4pm Sunday 24th) and the Horticultural and Produce Show at Bishop Auckland Town Hall.
