Certificate of Excellence for North Tyneside’s beaches

LongsandsNorth Tyneside’s award-winning coastline has picked up another top honour – a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

The prestigious award is given in recognition of consistently delivering a ‘quality customer experience’.

All four of the borough’s beaches, Longsands and King Edward’s Bay, both in Tynemouth, Cullercoats Bay and Whitley Bay have scooped the TripAdvisor accolade for the second year running.

It comes after Longsands (south), King Edward’s Bay and Whitley Bay (south) were this week handed coveted Blue Flags in recognition of their clean water, litter-free sands and top-notch facilities.

All three, as well as Cullercoats Bay, also received a Seaside Award.

And in 2014, TripAdvisor users voted Longsands in its top 10 beaches in the UK.

Meanwhile, a number of hotels, guest houses, visitor attractions and eateries across the borough were also awarded the Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence.

The awards are based on reviews left by visitors on the world’s largest travel review site and help to inform decisions on where to stay, eat and visit across the world.

Norma Redfearn, Elected Mayor of North Tyneside, said: “We already know that our beaches, as well as the borough’s hotels, attractions and places to eat, are right up there with the best in the country.

“However it is always pleasing to receive an award which recognises that, particularly when the praise comes from members of the public.

“Our award-winning coastline helps bring tourism worth millions of pounds to the local economy and this kind of recognition will only serve to enhance our reputation even further.

“We work hard to keep our beaches in top condition all year round and this is another reminder of how fortunate we are to have such a beautiful coastline on our doorstep.”
