Daisy Chain, a Teesside-based charity, which supports autistic children, young people and adults, is celebrating following its annual charity boat race in which The Mighty Tees, a team entered by The Tees Rivers Trust, were crowned as winners.

The organisation welcomed teams from businesses across the North East to Tees Barrage International White Water Centre to compete for the title of Boat Race Champions 2022! Businesses who attended included Mandale Group, Logic Architecture, Colewood Digital, MAC Clinical Research, SNe Care Services, Watson Woodhouse Solicitors, Macks Solicitors, razorblue and Queensway Dental Clinic.

Racing started at 10am at Tees Barrage International White Water Centre with teams of eight taking their places in the bell boats for the race which raises funds for Daisy Chain every year, money which is ploughed back into frontline autism services supporting some of the most marginalised people in the Tees Valley.

Member of the winning team from The Tees Rivers Trust, Judy Power, said: “We spend most of our working lives on improving the river Tees and its tributaries so it was a refreshing change to be on the river and not in it.

“It was our first time at the Daisy Chain Boat Race but won’t be our last. What a superb day and such a good cause too.”

Rhiannon Walker, Fundraising Manager at Daisy Chain said: “We would like to thank the local businesses who supported us for this event, raising funds for autism services in the Tees Valley and beyond.

“It was a fantastic day with lots of fun and friendly competition – many businesses have already reserved their slots for next year’s race! We can’t wait to welcome new teams next year to take on the challenge.”

Daisy Chain wants to extend a huge thank you to all of the boat race supporters this year, and to the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. The support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery through funds awarded by Postcode Children Trust has been integral to the development and growth of Daisy Chain over the last decade. It means the charity now supports over 3,000 families across the Tees Valley.
