Children and pensioners celebrate harvest festival together

SCHOOL children invited elderly care home residents in Stockton-on-Tees to attend their harvest festival.

Residents from The Beeches Care Home, on Green Lane, Newtown, attended the service at St Bede’s Catholic Church, Bishopton Road.

Pupils and staff from St Bede’s Catholic Academy hosted the service and thanked the residents for attending.

One of those in the pews was Gwen Baker, 84, who said: “It was lovely to sing along with the children. They’re all little crackers.”

Pat O’Brien, 88, added: “I really enjoyed the visit to the church as this is where I attend with my family. I was married here also.”

Jessica Brown, home manager at The Beeches Care Home, said: “We are very grateful to St Bede’s Catholic Academy for inviting us to their harvest festival.

“The residents thoroughly enjoyed the service and singing with the children. They thanked us for attending and said it was lovely to see us.

“We look forward to seeing the children again in future as we’re always keen to take part in joint activities with the school and wider community.”
