AN AWARD-WINNING Newcastle pub is set to serve up a whole feast of treats on the countdown to Christmas, with its brand new seasonal menu.
City Tavern at Northumberland Road will be serving up a range of traditional dishes for visitors looking to get into the Christmas spirit in a food-filled, festive setting.
The menu, which includes options suitable for those with dairy and gluten allergies, as well as vegetarians and vegans, is offering two courses for £21.95, or three for £26.95, from the end of November and throughout December.
Among the starters included on the seasonal menu are ham hock terrine with pickled vegetables and City Tavern’s own cask ale jelly, a butter crusted duck liver pate with toasted artisan bread and bitter orange marmalade and a cream of mushroom and tarragon soup with blue cheese croutons and toasted walnuts.
The mains include traditional dishes such as locally reared free-range roast turkey with winter berry stuffing, pigs in blankets, seasonal vegetables and cranberry jus, a pan fried sea bass with aubergine puree, pancetta and salsa verdi – which is gluten free – and a winter pithivier, with squash, leek and wild mushrooms in a vegetarian puff pastry pie with a side of creamed tatties, vegetables and gravy.
The state-of-the-art bar, widely recognised for its Tudor style façade, is also dishing out desserts for those with a sweet tooth.
The desserts include a traditional Christmas pudding served with figs poached in mulled wine and brandy ice cream, a grapefruit and orange olive oil cake with winter berries and dairy free cream, which is suitable for vegans and those with gluten and dairy allergies, and a decadent Courvoisier home-made madeira cake Christmas trifle – which is for over 18s only.
City Tavern owner David King said he is excited for the launch of the new Christmas menu.
“City Tavern is always a magical place at Christmas, what with our fantastic decorations, winter warmer drinks and cosy setting – but we’re hoping that our specially-crafted Christmas menu will add that extra special touch to a festive day out,” he said.
“And we’re really looking forward to spending ‘the most wonderful time of the year’ with our customers.”
City Tavern was taken over by Mr King early in 2014 and then enjoyed a £450k refurbishment to create a state-of-the-art bar while still retaining the venue’s historic features.
