North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Clip ‘n Climb opens to high praise at intu Metrocentre!

Clip ‘n Climb, an innovative series of climbing walls, launched to the public on the Yellow Mall this week at intu Metrocentre, and those who turned up to try out the centre’s latest exciting leisure offering were not disappointed!

Clip ‘n Climb’s operator Namco UK, which already runs intu Metrocentre’s Funscape entertainment centre, is also launching the first in a chain of Angry Birds adventure golf courses at intu Metrocentre this autumn in partnership with game developer Rovio.

Clip ‘n Climb offers an all-weather space where adults and kids can enjoy some healthy, action-packed fun, featuring 26 climbing wall challenges of varying design and difficulty, testing agility and courage in different ways.

There are also 3 special attractions – ‘Stairway to Heaven’, ’10 mtr Drop Slide’, and ‘Timed Wall’.

If that’s not enough there’s an augmented climbing wall that features projected graphics combined with motion tracking to create interactive games that can be played individually or together!

Clip ‘n Climb will capitalise on the centre’s 20 million annual footfall and the growing appeal of indoor climbing walls, which are recording visitor growth of 15-20% a year according to the Association of British Climbing Walls.

Staff at Clip ‘n Climb were certainly kept on their toes this week as prospective climbers of all ages and abilities from 4 years old and upwards – with even experienced adult climbers turning up – all piled in to have a go!

Said experienced climber David Coxon:

“I was invited to come along and test the 26 walls and I have to admit that several of the walls are actually really quite challenging even for an experienced adult climber such as myself. I was really impressed, and had a great afternoon! Would highly recommend it!”

Tim Machon, aged 8 who came along with his grandparents said:

“It was such good fun, even though I was really high up I never felt scared as I had a harness and everyone was clapping and cheering me on. My favourite thing was the vertical drop where you get dragged up a great big slide then let go. I can’t wait to have my birthday party here!”

Clip ‘n Climb is open from 10am – 9pm at intu Metrocentre’s Yellow Mall Sunday – Thursday and 10am – 10pm Friday and Saturday. They also have a snack bar on site with toasted sandwiches, treats and soft drinks.

Entry is £13.50 pp if booked in advance on line or £14.50 pp in person.
