The opening of the new store on the site of the former Pegswood Ex Sports and Social Club on Main Street has created 15 jobs and is part of a wider redevelopment of the village.

The new 4,000sqft unit was project managed by Silverstone Building Consultancy, on behalf of Enviro Property Partners, a group of local businessmen, and built by Northern Structures Ltd.

Leading North East commercial agent and chartered surveying firm Bradley Hall identified the site and acted on behalf of Co-op to acquire the new premises.

Director of Enviro Property Partners, David Pollard said: “We are delighted to see the completion and opening of the new Co-op store in Pegswood. The feedback from local residents has been very positive and we are happy to introduce a new successful business to the area.

“The store signifies the continuing redevelopment of Pegswood which is set to create new jobs and opportunities for the local community.”

The Co-op Group announced last year that it was actively looking to acquire new sites across the region with plans to open a total of 100 new stores across the UK to strengthen its position as a convenience food retailer.

Senior surveyor Tim Aisbitt said:

“The investment and development in stores across the region reflects Co-op’s commitment to growth and confidence in the North East.

“This acquisition is further proof of the strength of the commercial property market across the region. For Bradley Hall it represents another successful project with Co-op.”

Earlier this year Bradley Hall assisted in the opening of a Co-op store in Bedlington, creating a further 23 jobs in the area.
