North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Commercial Maintenance Services UK Ltd doubles the size of its headquarters

Commercial Maintenance Services UK Ltd (CMS) is currently working on a major construction project to double the size of its North East headquarters.

Work is underway to expand and reconfigure the building in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, to accommodate its growing workforce and provide enough space for future expansion.

It is part of a wider strategy of investment in the business, which is already delivering an annual growth rate of 20 percent.

The family-owned company provides nationwide mechanical and electrical engineering services for commercial clients; including the design, supply, installation and maintenance of a wide range of business-critical building systems, including heating, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, catering and refrigeration.

CMS, whose clients include Travelodge, Nissan, Four Seasons Healthcare, Vodafone Group, Nuffield Health, Marks & Spencer and vehicle auction specialists Manheim, embarked on the major project after increasing its staff from 85 to 125 during the last 18 months in response to a growing order book.

The company was founded by brothers and experienced engineers Neil and Nic Smith in 2000, when the building was originally used as a warehouse.

The ongoing work has involved creating new meeting rooms, a conference room, covering over external walkways and reconfiguring the internal layout to provide a more useable and intelligent use of space. Externally work has been carried out to upgrade the parking facilities. There has also been investment in the IT infrastructure, with cloud-based ERP systems now delivering real time to information to the Head Office and customers.

Nic Smith said: “This building has evolved to meet the needs of a business which is undergoing a period of rapid growth and change.

“When we first moved to this site it was little more than a warehouse which, at the time, was perfect for our needs.

“The work to refurbish and extend the building will transform it into a modern head office which our staff can all be proud to work in.

“This is part of a wider strategy of investment in the business as we continue to expand our client base not only in the North East but on a national level and seek to continue to grow CMS by 20 percent a year.”

“We are already working with a number of major clients who are large multi-site operators or facilities management companies who require the reassurance of having one service supplier take responsibility for the maintenance of their buildings’ infrastructure.

“The ongoing work to upgrade our headquarters reflects the confidence in CMS’s ability to continue to grow the business to the next level by being able to deliver larger and more complex projects and service contracts.”
