Community Action Day Makeover for Lupin Meadow

A POPULAR nature reserve will be given a makeover later this month as part of a community initiative.

Volunteers will be out in force on Friday, October 27 to help brighten up the Lupin Meadow on Berwick Hills Nature Reserve – and they’re on the look-out for more helping hands.

One Planet Pioneers are joining forces with the Boro Becks Friends group and Tees Valley Wildlife Trust for the latest Community Action Day to cut, clear and tidy the site.

Community Action Days (CAD) are a series of events on the last Friday of the month intended to forge closer working links between local communities, organisations and friends groups.

One Planet Pioneers Community Action Days have so far this year helped to tidy up the Viewley Hill shopping centre and Linthorpe Cemetery.

The project is one of 31 UK wide projects forming the Our Bright Future programme which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

One Planet Pioneers Officer Nicky Morgan said: “Community Action Days have already helped many people across the town improve their neighbourhoods, and pick up new skills and contacts along the way.

“We will be working with communities across the town throughout the year, and we’re always on the look-out for volunteers and suggestions for new projects to take on.

“It’s also a great opportunity to meet new people, and gain valuable work experience.”

One Planet Pioneers – co-ordinated by Middlesbrough Environment City –   would like to hear from young people and their friends and family who would be interested in helping at this and future events.

All tools and gloves will be provided by One Planet Pioneers.

Although the project is aimed at young people aged 14 to 21, it is open to the whole community and all ages will be welcome. Under-14s must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Volunteers are asked to meet at Berwick Hills Nature Reserve (just off Ingram Road) on Friday, October 27. The Community Action Day runs from 10am to 3pm, and those taking part are asked to wear sturdy footwear and appropriate warm clothing for the outdoors.
