North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

South Tyneside CouncilSouth Tyneside residents are being given more time to have their say on future development in the Borough.

The council is currently consulting local people on its Strategic Land Review, which will help inform its new Local Plan.

The Local Plan will determine development over the next 20 years and will set out where homes, businesses, shops and leisure facilities will be built.

The council has decided to extend the consultation period in which people can give their views on potential locations for future development.

Councillor Allan West, Lead Member for Housing and Transport, said: “We’ve had a good response so far and have decided to extend the consultation period by a month after listening to residents.

“Officers have assessed over 300 potential sites across the Borough as part of this process but no decisions have been made at this stage.

“The consultation feedback will be used to help refine site assessments so we want to give people as much opportunity as possible to share their views and have some input.

“We’ve also decided to hold some additional consultation events in Boldon Colliery, Jarrow and East Boldon so I’d encourage people to take advantage and come along.”

Consultation will now run until the end of July. As planned officers will also be holding several focus groups next month for residents who have expressed an interest. Anyone wishing to take part should call 0191 424 7688 or email local.plan@southtyneside.gov.uk
