Ronnie and Ann Skippon of Framwellgate Moor have had their entire kitchen reconfigured by County Durham Housing Group’s repairs and maintenance division, Group Property Services (GPS).

The Skippons have lived in their two-bed bungalow for 12 years, however began to struggle when Ronnie became a full-time wheelchair user.

He said: “I was no longer able to move around the kitchen so it needed to be adapted to suit my needs.”

Ann added: “Even before Ronnie needed the use of his chair I struggled, as the original layout just didn’t work with a separate pantry, coalhouse and boiler room that even I couldn’t get into.”

Following an assessment of Ronnie’s needs GPS set to work, redesigning the original layout to make the best use of the area.

Ronnie concluded: “The changes have had a massive impact for us as I can now move around the kitchen freely, and we were delighted that all of the work was completed in less than two weeks.”

John Graham, GPS Planned Supervisor, managed the programme and said: “It’s great to be able to see a completed job have such an impact on people’s lives.”

GPS is a division of County Durham Housing Group and is responsible for repairs and maintenance, home improvements and gas services to more than 10,000 properties.
