Members will be told that, £1.4m will be distributed through the council’s Community Area Forums aimed at providing local neighbourhood solutions to issues raised by residents through their local ward members.

Community Area Forums have an important role in empowering communities and providing residents with a voice on issues affecting their local neighbourhood.

Councillor Ed Malcolm, Lead Member for Resources and Innovation at South Tyneside Council, said: “Despite facing severe financial pressures we are still committed to helping our communities at a time when many other local authorities do not have access to this type of funding anymore.

“This Community Area Forum funding will allow residents to address local issues – from re-decorating a youth club to providing additional litter bins – by raising them with their ward councillors and gaining support for their schemes and projects which could benefit the community as a whole.

“As well as funding for local solutions through the Community Area Forums we also work closely with communities to help them access additional funding and support from charities and the voluntary sector.”
