Five Yarm School pupils are celebrating selection for Durham County Rugby.
George Kitson and Junior Newton have been selected to play for the U15s squad, following in the footsteps of Mark Probets and Sam Dunkin who played for the U16s this season and Sol Kench who played for the U18 side.
The group was selected to play for their county following a trial. There is every chance that they will now represent Durham until U18 level, after which they could be selected to play for the North, or even England.
Junior has also been invited to the Newcastle Falcons assessment sessions for the U15 intake despite being only U14. 120 players from across the whole of Durham, Northumberland and Cumbria have been invited and only around 35 will be successful. Players are watched in the county developing player programme sessions and matchday invitations, and the very best are invited for further trials at Kingston Park.
Yarm School headmaster Huw Williams said: “This is another example of our pupils achieving outstanding sporting success.
“To have five players involved at county level is fantastic. The excellent facilities at Yarm School and the dedication of our sports teachers gives them every opportunity to progress and play at a very high level in the future.
“At Yarm School, we’re committed to sporting excellence and in supporting our pupils to achieve their very best both academically and in their extra-curricular activities.”
