Crowne Plaza-23Bookings are now being taken as the much anticipated Crowne Plaza® Newcastle – Stephenson Quarter hotel is ‘virtually’ open for business.

The new website going live coincides with the appointment of the hotel sales director, Amanda McBride.

Amanda joins what is set to become Newcastle’s most luxurious and contemporary hotel after over 20 years of experience in the sales sector. She is already working towards promoting the project which will be a great addition to the city’s conferencing and banqueting facilities.

Once complete, the impressive, seven-storey, 251-bed Crowne Plaza Newcastle – Stephenson Quarter will feature a uniquely shaped conferencing suite that can cater for up to 412 people and six adaptable meeting rooms that can accommodate meetings of 12 up to 100 people.

The hotel’s construction and the fit-out, overseen by the property developer Clouston Group, is on schedule for a July opening. Crowne Plaza Newcastle will be under a management contract with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG®).

Amanda, 42, was born and raised in Belfast where she lived for most of her life. The Crowne Plaza appointment represents a return to Newcastle where she had her first job after graduating from the University of Chester.

After her first job, Amanda moved back to Ireland where she worked in various sales roles for almost 20 years. Her role at Crowne Plaza Newcastle comes after four successful years within the IHG group.

Amanda said: “I am very excited to be moving back to Newcastle and becoming a part of such a significant project. We are already working with the key tourism contacts in the region and building anticipation for our opening in July.

“Newcastle has changed a lot in the last 20 years. So I am really looking forward to exploring what the city has to offer as well as being a part of this great project which will become a fabulous asset for the city.”

Paul Szomoru, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, added:

“The addition of such a fantastic new hotel and conferencing facility in the city centre is a clear signal of investor confidence in the area and great news for the industry, as well as conference and events organisers who will be even more spoilt for choice.

“It’s an exciting time to be part of NewcastleGateshead’s business tourism sector with the year ahead packed with high profile events such as Magic Weekend, RWC 2015, the Westfield Health British Transplant Games and the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence. We’re looking forward to working with the Crowne Plaza’s team to welcome the thousands of UK and international visitors to the city in addition to our ongoing work to attract more meetings, events and conferences.”
