Cygnet Law holds inaugural charity beach walk

Redcar MindRedcar-based Cygnet Law is to hold its first annual beach walk in aid of mental health charity, Redcar & Cleveland Mind.

Family and friends of the law firm will walk a five kilometre circular route along the beach from Majuba Car Park to the Beacon on the seafront in order to raise much-needed funds and awareness for Redcar & Cleveland Mind on June 24.

One of Cygnet’s specialisms is mental health law and it offers a range of services, from providing advice and representation to individuals and relatives under the Mental Health Act, through to representation in the Court of Protection.

Thanks to its Legal Aid Agency Contract, Cygnet also regularly provides its services free of charge.

Redcar & Cleveland Mind, close to Cygnet’s offices on West Dyke Rd in Redcar, provides advice and support to anyone experiencing a mental health problem, and also campaigns to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

Stacey Phoenix, a Family Solicitor at Cygnet Law, said: “Some of our staff have received training from Redcar & Cleveland Mind for mental health first aid. It was learning about the great work that they do locally with people within our community that made us want to do something to support them

“We provide specialist mental health law advice and representation, so we understand that mental health support may be needed by any one, at any time.

“We’re hoping to make these fundraising walks an annual event so we can continue to raise money for local causes. We would welcome anyone else who wishes to join us to come along to the walk and show their support.”

Veronica Harnett, Chief Executive of Redcar & Cleveland Mind said: “At at time when funding is becoming more and more difficult to secure, and in the face of ever increasing demand for our services, we are especially grateful that Cygnet are raising money and awareness at the same time to support us.

We’re looking forward to working closely with Cygnet in the future to see how we can work together to support people with mental health problems and to tackle stigma and discrimination. It’s great to have a well-respected local firm like Cygnet championing our work.”
