Darlington Building Society’s Finance Director, Christopher White, has swum the length of Coniston Lake in Cumbria to raise money for charity.

The challenge of swimming 5.25 miles is thought to be the equivalent of running a marathon on land and Christopher completed the gruelling swim in just over three hours.

In total Christopher raised more than £1,300 for local charity The Tiny Lives Trust, which helps to care for premature and sick new-born babies at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Darlington Building Society have also committed to matching the total Christopher raises.

In celebration of its 160th birthday this year, Darlington Building Society is on its way to raising £160,000 for local causes and charities including Tiny Lives.

Christopher said: “Tiny Lives is a charity very close to my heart. My son, Finnian, had a difficult first few weeks which resulted in him needing surgery. This was a very tough time for my family but thanks to the work of the Newcastle RVI and Tiny Lives my son has now made a full recovery and I thought it would be great to give something back.

“The swim was certainly very challenging but definitely worth it, I am very grateful to those who supported me and helped me raise a fantastic amount for such a worthy cause.”

Carol Meredith from Tiny Lives, said: “Everyone at Tiny Lives is so thankful to Chris for his hard work in raising over £1,000 for the charity. It is fantastic to see the work we do is greatly appreciated by those it has helped and they wish to support us to continue to help many more families. As a charity we rely heavily on the generosity of others to enable our team to continue its life-changing work.”

Chris has his own JustGiving page so if anyone would like to add to the donations please follow the link; https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ChristopherBWhite or search JustGiving for Christopher White.
