Darlington Building Society has acted on its commitment to support local organisations after hosting the first Darlington Business Club of 2016.

The Society’s Tubwell Row branch played host to Darlington Business Club’s first networking event of the year with guest speaker, Darlington Building Society’s Chief Executive, Colin Fyfe, using the event as an opportunity to inform local business people about how they can make the most of mutual’s resources during its anniversary year.

As part of its 160th anniversary celebrations, the mutual building society has made three commitments; to raise £160,000 for local causes, to give 160 volunteering days and to use its resources to the benefit of 160 local organisations. One of the ways it is doing this is by opening up space in its 10 branches for charities, small businesses and organisations, such as Darlington Business Club, to use.

Colin Fyfe said: “This year is a milestone year for Darlington Building Society as we celebrate 160 years since our establishment.

“The Society was originally formed by a few local working men and tradesmen with the ambition of improving the lives of local people. 160 years on, we have the same ambition; we are committed to helping our members, and the communities in which they live and work, to thrive.

“We are encouraging local businesses to use our resources, so that we can work together to help make a difference across our region. Whether that means opening up our branches to provide a platform for organisations to raise awareness of their activities, or loaning our van to help transport donations, we are here to help.”
