DfC announces festival programme

Darlington for Culture (DfC) announces the line-up of events for this year’s multi-faceted Darlington Arts Festival from 17-20 May.

Visit DfC’s website (www.darlingtonforculture.org/darlington-arts-festival-2019/) for details.

Now in its seventh year, Darlington Arts Festival retains the essential format of supporting existing ventures but this year many events have been organised specially for the four-day festival. It is an opportunity for organisations and individuals to promote their events and activities, and it is an opportunity for audiences to discover something new – with the theme ‘Follow Your Art’.

The festival will showcase arts ranging from exciting new music with the Noisy Daughters vinyl launch, to talented young players at the Darlington Piano Society recital, top-class New Orleans jazz, visual arts, children’s theatre, the dance festival, and potentially discovering the next comedy genius at Belly Giggles workshop. There will also be talks by artists and practitioners, and a guided walk around the town centre to discover ‘The art of Darlington’ with Chris Lloyd of The Northern Echo.

Stephen Wiper, Creative Darlington Manager, said: “Darlington for Culture has programmed four fantastic days of activity, events and exhibitions. The festival celebrates the wealth of creative talent, innovation and energy that help make Darlington a great place to visit.

“Creative Darlington is delighted to be supporting the festival and whether you enjoy film, music, theatre, visual arts, creative writing or exploring something new, we hope you’ll have a great time at this year’s festival.”

A substantial part of the festival is devoted to creative writing and includes events for new and established writers to help develop their skills in everything from poetry and prose to crime fiction, with two events led by John Dean.

And the festival will finish on a high note with Darlington Film Club’s screening of Florence Foster Jenkins

Check the programme online or in print (copies available at various venues) for dates, times, and booking details.
