North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Dinner with a Panoramic View Thanks to Exciting New Pairing

FOR the first time The Botanist has exclusively teamed up with NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI) to give geordie experience-seekers a one-of-a-kind opportunity.

‘Dinner with the Earl’ will run on Sunday 20 August 2017, offering 24 people the chance to take in Newcastle from one of the city’s best-kept secret outlooks at the top of Grey’s Monument, followed by a meal at The Botanist – famed for its restaurant views.

The lucky few who are quick to snap up tickets will take a guided tour, climbing all 164 steps to reach the top of the iconic figure and see the city from the sky, before descending to the neighbouring Monument Mall bar and eatery for a three course dinner fit for an Earl.

Three tours will run starting from 5pm, with each one lasting 30 minutes and able to accommodate eight people. During their slot, groups will learn about the history of the monument and Earl Grey himself, whilst enjoying a bird’s eye vantage point of Grey Street and Grainger Street’s beautiful buildings, all the way to the Quayside and beyond.

Once back on ground level – or on the second floor to be precise – the parties will take a seat in The Botanist, which itself is known for its unrivalled cityscape featuring Grey’s Monument at the centre, to reflect on their tour over a bite to eat.

Diners will be able to choose a starter, main course and dessert from a set menu with dishes including the popular ‘Hanging Kebab’ concept in chicken, jerk salmon or halloumi and sesame falafel; various burgers and indulgent desserts such as Warm Chocolate Fudge Cake and Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Andrew Shiel-Redfern, general manager at The Botanist, said: “We are in a prime location opposite Grey’s Monument and diners in our restaurant often comment on the stunning scene from their seats, so we’re excited to be teaming up with NGI to take this a step further and put on an event with a difference.

“I’ve always wanted a sneak peek from the top of the Monument and would urge anyone else keen to take on the 164 step challenge to capture the unique vista to purchase tickets quickly as the chance doesn’t come around often!”

Sarah Stewart, chief executive at destination management and marketing organisation NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for visitors and locals alike to take a seldom seen look inside and from the top of one of NewcastleGateshead’s most iconic landmarks. Combining two of the best views in the city – climbing Grey’s Monument will transport visitors back in time before a much deserved and delicious dinner at The Botanist.

“As the destination management and marketing organisation for NewcastleGateshead, our partners play an important role in helping us promote the breadth of experiences on offer to visitors and this special event is a great example of how we’re working with The Botanist to deliver a truly special experience.”

Tickets are available now and must be booked in advance, priced at £35 per person. To purchase tickets call 0191 261 6307 or email newcastlebookings@thebotanist.uk.com.
