Dog rescue charity benefits from store donation

A local flooring store has come to the “rescue” of a dog rescue charity in North Yorkshire.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Catton, near Thirsk, approached Flooring Superstore in Monks Cross York to buy some artificial turf for a new outdoor area where prospective dog adopters can first meet their chosen four-legged friend.

But when the store learned what the turf was for, it donated it free of charge, saving the charity over £300.

The turf now forms part of the new area known as Meet and Match™. This is a method pioneered by Jerry Green Dogs, which was set up in 1961 and has five rescue centres in North and South Lincolnshire, North and East Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire.

The idea is to enable people to meet dogs they are interested in adopting away from the kennels so both humans and canines can get to know each other in a calmer environment.

Miranda Sabey, Jerry Green Dog Rescue Deputy Manager at Catton, explains: “The new Meet and Match™ area was a massive project for us and like all charities, every penny we spend matters, so to receive the kind donation of artificial turf from Flooring Superstore was fantastic.

“It’s one of the centrepieces of the new area where dogs and their prospective owners can properly get to know each other, away from the noise of the kennels.

“It’s proving very popular with visitors and because of donations like this one, it means we have been able to redirect the money we would have spent on the flooring to other key areas, such as training and the health and wellbeing of the dogs at the centre.”

Mark Clayton, Manager of the York Flooring Superstore, said: “We were delighted to have been able to support such a wonderful local charity which does a great job rehoming dogs with people who can provide them with a great quality of life.

We donated 80m² of our Adelaide Artificial Grass as its 18mm pile height was perfect for the project. In general, we recommend pet owners go for range no taller than 30mm due to the ease of cleaning after our furry friends. It’s great to know that the turf is proving popular with the dogs!”

The Flooring Superstore in York is one of 16 (with a 17th opening in Crewe in December) across the UK which is owned by North East-based family-run company Connection Flooring. Shoppers to the store, and online, have access to three brands, Flooring Superstore, Grass Direct and Direct Wood Flooring.
