Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Employees ecstatic following awards recognition

On Friday (14th July) employees from around the region came together to enjoy an evening of celebration courtesy of the North East Employee of the Year Awards.

Hosted by the BBC’s Anna Foster, the awards ceremony welcomed over 200 guests to the Grand Marquee at Wynyard Hall Hotel, and was a fantastic opportunity for teams and individuals from a variety of industries to be recognised and rewarded for all their hard work.

The evening, featuring a three-course meal and entertainment from Newcastle’s very own Hip Hop Hooray, was run in partnership with Tesco Underwriting with additional sponsors Harvey & Hugo, KMS Partners, Smart Utility and Human Group.

The prestigious title of North East Employee of the Year, which was selected from all category winners, was awarded to Sophie Moorby of Go North East. Sophie, also winner of the Young Employee of the Year award, attributes this success to the team around her.

She said: “I wouldn’t be where I am now without them taking a chance on me and their constant support. I don’t want to stop here, my aim is to make it right to the top and one day become MD.”

Other award winners included ‘Best Apprentice’ Ellie Barton from the Darlington branch of Hays Travel who achieved ‘High Flier’ status within her first year with the Company. Cleveland and Durham Police Special Ops Unit, the very team featured on TV’s Police Interceptors, won the Team of the Year award, sharing with the audience their delight in seeing how the show has inspired a generation.

Interceptor ‘Spike’ said: “We have young children wanting to dress up like us and thinking we’re awesome. We’re proud to have been their inspiration and see that we have a generation of future Interceptors.”

Leading North East event management company, She’s Gott It!, organised the event which received a record number of nominations.

Managing Director, Nickie Gott, said: “We were delighted to create an opportunity to recognise the hard work of employees and the talent that makes the region’s businesses so successful.

“Seeing leaders, employers and teams from across the North East together, celebrating so many worthy achievements was fantastic.”
