Last week saw England Roses captain Serena Guthrie visit Newcastle as guest coach for the One Netball coaching camp.

The guest coach was able to join the participants for the last two days of their weeklong camp.

Girls aged 8-16 were inspired by having the Commonwealth Gold Medalist talk to them about life as an elite sportsperson together with sharing her knowledge on the court and how to improve their skills and to progress as a player.

Adults were also able to take part in a coaching session on Thursday evening with Serena Guthrie being able to share techniques for them to take away back to their Clubs or to work on to improve their own individual game.

Talking about the One Netball camps, the England Roses captain said: “It’s been fun to come up to the North East and share my experiences of playing the sport I love. It was pleasing to see the enthusiasm for the sport by all the participants this week especially leading on from the success of the Commonwealth Games and the recent World Cup on home soil. It’s important for the sport to be able to build on that legacy and hopefully I’ve helped to achieve that in the last couple of days.”

Simon Lee, director of One Netball commented: “We were delighted to have Serena come up to the North East to be our guest coach for the Newcastle netball camps and was fantastic to see all the participants listen to the words of advice that Serena had to offer. We hope to be able to build upon the growth of the sport and offer more experiences in the future.”
